Since its debut for the Liverpool Capital of Culture ’08 festivities, the Threads Orchestra has been busy writing an extensive catalogue of original music. The group combines jazz and classical musicians (including prog jazzers Chris Montague and Mercury Award nominee pianist Kit Downes) from the UK creating a unique form of improvised and written music. All the members have written for the group, as well as commissions from composers and arrangements of works from Zappa, Piazzolla, Zorn, Evyind Kang and Secret Chiefs III. Between them the group has toured and recorded with names as diverse as Sting, James Taylor, Joanna McGregor, Dave Liebman, Corinne Bailey-Rae, Yan Pascal Tortelier and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.
