Some endlessly debate the downside of hip-hop, but the genre has also contributed to the music industry and America as a whole. Using the book "The Big Payback: The History of the Business of Hip-Hop" as a touchstone, experts will examine eight effects that hip-hop has has on our culture and society. They include: the desegregation of the music business, the browning of America, the birth of the "street team," the super-empowered artist-mogul, the breaking of the Hollywood color barrier, and, of course, the election of Barack Obama.
