Government Music Funding

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Behind the music industry, there's another industry of sorts afoot. This is the world of government funding, and its role on the production and dissemination of music. As the industry continues to decline with the loss of the physical market, public monies have become investments in artist careers, festivals and national pavilions, with export offices becoming versions of A&R, putting forth artists that are best for the national brand. Yet, as funding develops and increases, the way we all do it is different, so much so each country often enacts policy without looking at others, producing a diverging field of funding systems across the globe. It's best if we understand and learn from each other, and fully excoriate how important government funding is in the modern music industry. Come meet and learn from the leaders of Canada, Norway, Scotland, Austin and France to discuss the growing importance of music funding in the mainstream.
