Brian Canlis studied abroad in England, Austria, and Spain before completing a business and restaurant management degree at Cornell University. Commissioned as an Air Force officer in 2001, he then led his base’s food service team to win the coveted Hennessy Award for the Air Force’s best food and dining operation. He was stationed at Washington DC to help lead an elite protocol squad that played host to world leaders and international heads of state. While deployed to Kyrgyzstan for Operation Enduring Freedom, Brian acted as base liaison to the US ambassador and was responsible for hosting visiting dignitaries and other political officials. In 2005, Brian joined his brother Mark as third generation owners of Seattle's Canlis Restaurant. Brian’s grandfather opened Canlis in 1950 and then passed the business down to Brian’s parents, who ran it for three decades. Now, as President of the company (a title he rotates with his brother each year), Brian leads business development, operations, executive team leadership, product innovation, and financial profitability. Brian is newly considered an expert on small businesses, social media, and strategic philanthropy. He has spoken locally and nationally on these topics.
