Brian Ellis

Revive Music Group
Born to a middle-class family in White Plains, NY, BRIAN ELLIS spent most of his life in New Jersey and Connecticut (where he moved right before high school). It was in Connecticut that he first began to get interested in hip-hop, constantly writing rhymes and working on beats as often as he could. Nicknamed "Raydar" by his friends because of his habit of researching and tracking down information, Ellis enrolled in North Carolina A&T State University to study electrical engineering. However, after two years Raydar decided he wanted to pursue music seriously, and transferred to Berklee College of Music in Boston to study music synthesis and business. As he continued making beats and writing rhymes, Raydar produced and released his debut album Late Pass on Boston-based Brick Records in 2006. He returned to his alma mater in fall 2008, Berklee College of Music, as a teacher and the first professor of hip-hop. Raydar began by teaching hip-hop ensemble, spoken word ensemble and turntable technique. Raydar has produced the critically-acclaimed Boombox by Raheem Jamal and with Quite Nyce co-produced Champs vs. The League. He has been a guest artist/producer with Esoteric on "Boston Garden Rap” &"First of a New Breed", and Chris “Daddy” Dave’s remix “Private Party” performed by Michelle Williams. Raydar has also shared the stage with many great artists including, Michelle N'degeocello, The Experiment, Adam Deitch, Ben Williams, Igmar Thomas, Mos Def, Sonnymoon, Questlove, Slum Village, Supernatural, Pharoahe Monch, Dj Wreckineyez, Phonte, John Robinson, Marc Cary, Marcus Strickland, Esperanza Spalding, Cee-lo, John Cena, Pete Rock, J-Live, 7L& Esoteric and Abraham Inc. to name a few. Raydar is a longtime contributor for Revive Music Group and The Revivalist (www.revivalistmusic.com). Revive Music Group produces events that highlight the fusion of jazz and hip-hop in pop culture. Be on the look out for A Summer With Darvin Digs, Raydar’s new album, upcoming production projects featuring Lyric Jones & Back Wordz, and live performances in a city near you.
