Catherine Hardwicke

Electronic Suggestion
Choosing material that is simultaneously thought-provoking and controversial, Catherine Hardwicke has cemented her place as an auteur filmmaker and as a member of an all-too small group of female directors. Hardwicke’s currently set to release RED RIDING HOOD, a dark and gothic retelling of the classic fairy tale starring Amanda Seyfried, Gary Oldman, Virginia Madsen, and Julie Christie. She has also signed on to direct the classic HAMLET; THE MAZE RUNNER; the adaptation of James Patterson’s popular series MAXIMUM RIDE; THE MONKEY WRENCH GANG based on the original eco-activist novel by Edward Abbey; and SWERVE, a comedy based on Hardwicke’s original script about our love/hate affair with conspicuous consumerism. Hardwicke directed the first of the Twilight Saga films, TWILIGHT, which grossed an astounding $69.6m on opening weekend – the highest opening ever for a female director– and nearly $400m worldwide. Hardwicke went on to pen the NY Times and USA Today best-seller, TWILIGHT: THE DIRECTOR’S NOTEBOOK showcasing her personal behind-the-scenes photos and experiences directing TWILIGHT. Hardwicke’s other credits include the historical drama THE NATIVITY STORY, LORDS OF DOGTOWN, and the critically acclaimed film THIRTEEN, which earned her the Director’s Award at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival.
