Doreen Marchionni (Ph.D. ‘09, Missouri School of Journalism) is a Pacific Northwest native specializing in new-media research/consulting and journalism as a conversation. She is also a 17-year veteran of newspapers, primarily as a manager and most recently as an assistant metro editor at The Seattle Times. She received her master’s degree in American Studies from Columbia University (ethnic studies/immigration focus) and used her doctorate to find a way to measure the phenomenon of conversational journalism. She teaches journalism/social media, media literacy and editing as a visiting professor at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash. while also advising the college newspaper The Mooring Mast and serving as the Sunday metro editor at The Seattle Times.
