ROBERT DARDEN is the former Gospel Music Editor for Billboard magazine and the author of 25 books, including People Get Ready: A New History of Black Gospel Music. He is an Associate Professor of Journalism at Baylor University. His next book is on black sacred music and the Civil Rights movement.
